SHORT FILM SPOKEN IN ENGLISH AND FILMED WITH AMERICAN CREW, HAS A WELL KNOWN BRAZILIAN ACTOR IN THE CAST

On Friday evening, Warner Bros. will screen the short film "Stuffed" by writer and director Gabby Egito. The session will be held in one of the private screening rooms of the studio in Los Angeles and later the film goes to international festivals.

Shot in LA and 20 minutes long, the short tells the story of a private eye (Steve Bartlett) hired by an arrogant advertiser (Phil Miler) to investigate whether his partner is stealing from their ad agency. During the investigation, he discovers that his client is involved with drugs, sexual harassment and white collar corruption. From there, he decides to turn the game, triggering unforeseen consequences.

The film -- entirely spoken in English and shot by an American crew -- is a remake of the noir genre, made ​​famous in the 40 and 50 in Hollywood, favorite film period of the director. It is based on a short story of the award-winning Brazilian writer Marcelo Carneiro da Cunha. Several of his novels had been adapted to the big screen, among them, "Antes que o Mundo Acabe" ("Before the World Ends"), whose feature film was released last year in Brazil.

In addition to American actors, the cast has a Brazilian: Phil Miler, well known in Brazil for playing the character Saint Never on Ford commercials, running for three years on national broadcast. He is also in "O Palhaço" ("The Clown"), directed by Selton Mello, feature to be released in November on Brazilian theaters. "I know Phil's work since Brazil and when I met him here in Los Angeles I decided to invite him for this project, because I knew he's a native English speaker and could add much to the character", says the director.

Living in LA since last year, Gabby also wrote and directed the short "Synergy", screened at major international festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, and awarded at the Awareness Festival, in Hollywood. She also has two other shorts in post-production, to be released soon.

"I'd love to shoot in Brazil, but as long as the doors are open here, I'm staying. I feel proud to introduce the Brazilian culture in my movies, always giving a universal treatment to the stories, and the reception has been wonderful", she says. The photography is signed by John Honore, award-nominated by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). He has four features and more than 30 shorts in his resumée, haivng gone to festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, New York and Canada.

CURTA FALADO EM INGLÊS E FILMADO COM EQUIPE AMERICANA, TEM CONHECIDO ATOR BRASILEIRO NO ELENCO

Nesta sexta à noite, a Warner Bros vai exibir o curta-metragem “Stuffed”, da roteirista e diretora brasileira Gabriela Egito. O lançamento acontece em uma das salas privadas do estúdio em Los Angeles e posteriormente o filme segue para festivais internacionais.

O título, ainda sem tradução para o português, faz referência a uma expressão que significa farto, cheio da vida, mas que em inglês é utilizada também para descrever empalhamento (de animais) e bichos de pelúcia ou quando uma pessoa se mete em uma grande enrascada.

Rodado em LA e com 20 minutos de duração, o curta conta a história de um investigador particular (Steve Bartlett) contratado por um arrogante publicitário (Phil Miler) para investigar se o sócio dele está cometendo desfalques na agência. Mas quando o detetive começa a levantar o caso, descobre que seu cliente está envolvido em assédio sexual, drogas e crime do colarinho branco. A partir daí, ele decide virar o jogo, desencadeando consequências imprevistas.

O filme – totalmente falado em inglês e realizado com equipe americana – faz uma releitura do gênero noir, celebrizado nas décadas de 40 e 50 em Hollywood, período favorito da diretora. É baseado em conto do premiado escritor brasileiro Marcelo Carneiro da Cunha, com diversos romances adapatados para o cinema, entre eles, “Antes que o Mundo Acabe”, cujo filme estreou nas salas brasileiras ano passado.

Além de atores americanos, o elenco conta com um brasileiro: Phil Miler, conhecido pelo papel de São Nunca em comerciais da Ford, veiculados por três anos em rede nacional. Ele está também em “O Palhaço”, longa dirigido por Selton Mello a ser lançado em novembro no circuito nacional. "Já conhecia o trabalho do Phil no Brasil e quando o encontrei aqui em Los Angeles decidi convida-lo para este projeto, porque sabia que ele tem inglês nativo e poderia acrescentar muito ao personagem", conta a diretora.

Morando há um ano em Los Angeles, Gabriela escreveu e dirigiu também o curta “Synergy” (Sinergia), exibido em importantes festivais internacionais, como Clermont-Ferrand, e premiado no festival Awareness, em Hollywood. Ela tem ainda mais dois outros curtas em pós-produção, a serem lançados em breve.

“Adoraria filmar no Brasil, mas enquanto as portas estiverem abertas por aqui, vou ficando. Me sinto orgulhosa de apresentar a cultura brasileira em meus filmes, sempre dando um tratamento universal às histórias, e a recepção tem sido maravilhosa”, diz.
