The Brazilian festival Curta Santos debuts today its ninth edition with a special exhibition to be screened in five universities of the city of Santos (Sao Paulo state). My short "Synergy" is among the five films selected for these special screenings, which represent the theme of this year's festival: "To all women in the world."
The sessions take place today (30) at 7pm, at the Centro Universitario Monte Serrat (Unimonte) and Universidade Santa Cecilia (Unisanta); tomorrow (31), 9:30am at Unimonte; Thursday (01), 7pm, at Catholic University of Santos (Unisantos) and Monday (05) at the School of Management, Marketing and Communication (ESAMC). Admission is free and open to the general public.
The five selected short films from more than 700 submissions are: "Leila Para Sempre Diniz" (Forever Leila Diniz), by Mariza Leão and Sergio Rezende; "Naiá e a Lua" (Naia and the Moon), by Leandro Tadashi, "Cores e Botas" (Colors and Boots), by Julian Vincent; "Poliamor" (Polyamory), by José Agripino; and "Sinergia" (Synergy), by Gabby Egito.
"Synergy" is a dark comedy about the corporate world, featuring the German actress based in Los Angeles Ilka Urbach. She is Amelia Lockheart, a regional sales manager who is looking forward to a promotion, having worked tirelessly in the merger of the company. But being a woman in a male-dominated world is not easy. She disputes the position with her coworker Constantine Matters (Robert Balder). And an unexpected outcome awaits them when they get stuck in a conference room in a Sunday afternoon. The film is spoken in English with Portuguese subtitles, and was shot in Los Angeles last year. Curta Santos takes place from 13 to 17 September in Santos (Sao Paulo), with the expectation of audience records. More than 1 million people attended the previous editions.

Ela é Amelia Lockheart, uma gerente regional de vendas que aguarda ansiosamente por uma promoção, após ter trabalhado incansavelmente na fusão da empresa. Mas ser mulher em mundo dominado pelos homens não é fácil. Ela disputa a vaga com seu colega Constantine Matters (Robert Balder). E um desfecho inesperado os aguarda ao ficarem trancados em uma sala de reuniões em pleno domingo. O curta é falado em inglês, com legendas em português, e foi rodado em Los Angeles no ano passado.
