The distance between paper and screen | A distância entre o papel e a tela

If you love cinema and studied a little bit about it you've probably heard about the distance between the ideas in paper and the results on screen. Me too.

But one thing is to read about it and listen to other people complaining. Another thing is to experience that. And I'm not talking about the colaborative work that films are. It's not an issue about how a director or the crew can change the previous script.

Today I've seen the results of my first project, the mis-en-scene. Disappointing, I must say. I always thought of filmmaking as turning dreams, ideas, into "reality". But my product was far from what I've previously imagined.

1) First thing that I didn't like: the texture of Kodak 7222 film (200 ASA). It's too grainy. I don't know if we did something wrong, I'll have to ask my teacher. We seemed to have plenty of light with correct exposure.

2) I should've payed more attention to the actor's performance. They've done their best, of course. But there are some things that could've been improved if - again, if - I've had a monitor at the set (wich the school doesn't allow us to).

3) The absence of a monitor affected the framing as well. I think I explained very well to the Director of Photography but nevertheless the result was not exactly what I expected for. (Okay, we're all learning, right?)

4) Finally, I think the worse of all was my idea. It didn't worked as I expected. I've ended a little frustrated with my poor achievment. i know that I'm always too picky about myself, yeah. But maybe this time I'm just being realistic.

You'll check it yourself (and later tell me). I'll upload it as soon as possible. I've already edited it, but's missing the soundtrack. It's just a silent movie right now.

Well, I couldn't end this post without recognizing at least one good thing. We used a skate board to emulate a dolly (cause the school doesn't provide us with this kind of equipments on first assignments). I was really afraid that the images would seem to be dancing. No. It shaked a little bit but nothing much.

Tomorrow the projects will be sreened for comments on my class. Let's see what the teacher is going to say.

Hoje eu conferi o resultado do meu primeiro projeto, o mis-en-scène. Decepcionante, devo dizer.

Você vai conferir (e depois me fala).
